Student Empowerment Act Introduced in the Senate

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced legislation that would allow homeschooling families to take advantage of 529 savings plans for educational expenses. Currently, 529 plans can be used for private elementary and high school tuition. S.3102, the Student Empowerment Act, would allow parents to save money, tax-free, for homeschooling expenses.

Escambia County Schools in Alabama announced they will begin offering a virtual school through Odysseyware for homeschoolers. Odysseyware is a customizable curriculum library with over 300 courses. The program is available to students in grade 3 through 12.

Spring Hill Area Parent Educators (SHAPE) is holding two events in August for homeschooling families. On August 4th, there will be a parent preview open house from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Spring Hill Public Library in Spring Hill, TN. On August 8th, there will be a Back-To-School Carnival from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Evans Park in Spring Hill. More information is available at
