U.S. House of Representatives Expands 529 Savings Plans to Include Homeschoolers

The United States House of Representatives have passed H.R. 6757 to expand 529 savings plans to include homeschooling. Under the current tax code, parents and grandparents can only put aside funds for religious and private schooling. The bill still needs to be approved by the Senate.

Homeschool Fair at Fort Hood and Other News

The Fort Hood Child and Youth Services School Liaison Office hosted a homeschool resource fair this past Friday for military families homeschooling their children. CYS offers assistance to homeschool parents in the military. Any families interested in homeschooling or who need assistance may contact the the School Liaison Office.

Tim Tebow Talks Homeschooling on GMA; Homeschooling in Color Expo

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback, Tim Tebow, appeared on Good Morning America to promote his new book. In the interview with Jessica Mendoza (who also homeschools her children) he talked about his mission to reach kids who are homeschooled and let them know that it’s OK to be different.

Homeschool Day, College STEM Courses, and Homeschool Gaming

The Virginia Living Museum offers homeschool students grades K through 12 a day of fun and engaging programs that highlight important natural and space science concepts. Programs are available for grades K-4. A lab about pond life is available for grades 5-12. All programs are curriculum and grade-level targeted and taught by the museum’s professional educators. Homeschool Happenings in Maine, Online Classes for Homeschooling Parents

The Damariscotta River Association offers a monthly hands-on nature programs from September through June for homeschool families. Classes are held 10:00 a.m. to noon on the fourth Monday of each month (except October and December). Prepay for five classes and get a sixth class free. For ages 5 and up (younger may come).
