Homeschooling is Up in Kentucky and Other News

Kentucky General Assembly’s Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee reported that homeschooling is gaining popularity in the Bluegrass State. According to the report, more than 26,500 families (or about 3.5%) are homeschooling their children. This is slightly higher than the national average of 3.3%



The Plainview Homeschool Chess Club placed third overall in the junior division of the Texas State Scholastic Team Chess Championship with three members earning individual awards. The team meets monthly to practice and participates in state and local competitions.

Nashville Homeschool Calendar is a central resource for homeschooling families in and around the Nashville/Middle TN area who are looking for opportunities to connect with other homeschoolers. Their primary services are to organize field trips and work with venues to advertise their upcoming homeschool related events. They also maintain lists of area tutorials, co-ops, and classes/events available to homeschoolers. Check them out at homeschoolcalendar.org.

The Steger-South Chicago Heights Public Library has Homeschool STEAM Mondays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is for all ages and a snack is provided. Registration is required. More information is available on the library’s website.
