Hershey’s Homeschool Day and Field Trips; Tumblr Founder Homeschooled; Track to Trail Program; YMCA Program

Hershey’s Homeschool Day is on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your kids to The Hershey Story and discover all things Hershey — the man, his business, the town, and the chocolate — in an active, hands-on way! Our unique programs reach far beyond history to include economics, geography, science, math and reading. Tickets are $10 per person. David Karp, the founder of the micro-blogging site Tumblr was homeschooled after dropping out of The Bronx High School of Science. His mother suggested the change so he could follow his passion for computers and programming.

Track to Trail Thoroughbreds, a non-profit that rehabilitates thoroughbreds, invites homeschoolers for a hands on, interactive visit. Learn about rehabilitation, rescue, and how they help the horses that come to their facility . Ages 3 and up! $10 per child and this goes towards the care of the horses in recovery or that are waiting for homes. The program is offered monthly. The Mattoon YMCA’s homeschool program will begin taking registration on October 2nd for children ages 5 and up. The program runs from October 23rd to December 13th and will meet on Fridays from 10-11:45 a.m. The program includes gym sessions and swimming lessons.
