The Central Louisiana Christian Homeschool Association is holding a yearly kick-off event at Louisiana College’s Granberry Conference Center on August 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free event has informational sessions for homeschoolers just getting started and families homeschooling high school. Also included are vendors, a used curriculum and book sale, and activities for kids.
An 8th grade Hiawatha homeschooler, Laura Hubbs, won first place in the middle school division of the second annual Iowa Map Contest. Hubbs created an online, interactive map of 27 public parks around Cedar Rapids using ArcGIS.
Jonathan Tonnell completed a project teaching children to swim. The homeschool senior taught 28 kids from 5-12 to swim over a four week period. Tonnell completed the project as part of the Trail Life Freedom Award, the highest rank awarded by Trail Life USA.
Sarah-Jane Cox has built a home-school curriculum around her autistic son’s love of pop stars. Eight-year-old Fletcher Cox was struggling in school so his mother Sara decided to homeschool him by focusing on his interests: pop stars like Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
